We have had a few interesting surprises recently with some of our services - especially diesel engines - finding the dreaded "Sludge" in the oil, clogged up oil filters, contamination on sensors etc. With modern diesels, pushing out your servicing and not carrying out preventive inlet manifold flushes will always come back and bite you hard.

Here is a little story - hope it helps you to understand the detrimental damage done to your engine when you do not carry out regular oil services and preventive maintenance:-

Everybody knows that Sludge smells terrible and whenever you have Sludge, his best buddy Friction isn’t far behind - great, who brought these guys?

The Smoooooth Operator song (by Sade… you remember that one right?!) comes to a screeching halt because nobody wants Friction at their happy-engine party.  

Sludge is always so tough to get rid of though once he’s there. He’s always blocking door ways, getting in the way of activities, and stinking the place up big time.  The entire symphony of parts on the once flowing dance floor begin intently looking at each other watching for the first one to head out. Obviously no one wants to be “that guy” at the party.  A short time passes, and the damage that "Sludge" and "Friction" has caused to the happy-engine party is now apparent and irreversible. 

The Bearing sisters can’t take the heat anymore and start saying their goodbye’s to all of their close friends.  As soon as the Bearings make the first move, the rest of the parts follow them out the door as fast as they can. 

This leaves you, the party master, standing there shoeless with your pockets hanging out in the middle of an empty dance floor.  Meanwhile, you can hear that Sludge and Friction are still hanging out in your kitchen eating your leftover lasagna and talking about borrowing your car. Ugh.

Looking back, you realize that if you never let "Sludge" and "Friction" into the engine-party to begin with, all of your friends would have had another great time together spinning around the dance floor, and would have been around for many years to come.  Unfortunately, the damage has been done, and now you need a new set of friends to invite to your future engine-parties. Your parties will never be quite the same again.
